The European Unions Packaging and packaging and waste directive (94/62/EC) was entered into force in 1994, harmonizes national measures covering the management of packaging and waste. This must insure that member state restrictions on packaging do not have the effect of creating barriers to trade, and to reduce the overall impact of packaging and packaging waste on the environment.
