The safety of toys Directive sets fundamental health and safety requirements relating to playthings. The Directive relates to, among other things, toys which means any product that has been designed or intended for use by children younger than fourteen years of age when playing.
The toys Directive already came into force on 1st January 1990 and has no transition period. This means that no toy may be placed on the market and put to use without the CE Marking.
The essential safety requirements for toys comprise general requirements relating to the design, the construction or the composition of the toys. Further, there are essential safety requirements relating to special hazards, such as the physical and mechanical properties, flammability, chemical properties, electrical properties, hygiene and radioactivity.
