This relates to a proposal for a Directive relating to cable-way installations for personnel transport. The proposal sets essential requirements in relation to cable-way installations for personnel transport. At present, cable-way installations for personnel transport in the Member States are subject to legal regulations relating to the safety when taking them into operation and their operation as well as aspects relating to environmental protection and environmental planning. The proposal for a Directive for cable installation for personnel transport divides the installations in question into five groups, namely funicular railways, cable-cars, cabin lifts, chair lifts and ski drag lifts. The proposal for the Directive sets essential requirements relating to the system in its entirety, in which account should be taken of the end result of the assembly of the components. The New Approach cable installation Directive for personnel transport has not yet been discussed by the Council.
